Job Title: Contracts Manager

Location: Greater Manchester (hybrid)

Salary: Starting from £75,000 (depending on experience) + £5,000 car allowance

Job Objectives

  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of allocated Civils projects, reporting to the Operations Director.
  • Lead and support Site Managers and project teams to ensure consistent performance across programme, safety, quality and cost.
  • Ensure client expectations are met and contractual performance targets are achieved.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety, quality and professionalism across all projects.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

General Management

  • Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with company policies, procedures and required standards.
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to Site Managers and project teams.
  • Carry out regular site visits to monitor progress, performance and compliance.
  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced and delivered effectively.
  • Produce accurate and timely project reports and updates for senior management.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Promote and maintain high standards of Health, Safety and Environmental performance across all projects.
  • Ensure Construction Phase Plans are developed, maintained and adhered to.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and safety audits.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, company policies and industry standards.
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with site teams to maintain a positive safety culture.

Project Delivery & Client Management

  • Manage the successful delivery of Civils projects from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor project performance against programme, quality and cost objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to Site Managers and delivery teams.
  • Ensure effective communication and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve issues proactively to minimise delays and disruption.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery and performance.

Planning & Pre-Construction

  • Review and oversee project programmes from tender through to delivery.
  • Monitor progress and ensure key milestones are achieved.
  • Support tender and pre-construction activities with input on buildability, programme and project risks.
  • Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Ensure projects are properly planned and resourced prior to commencing works.

Leadership & People

  • Lead, mentor and support Site Managers and wider project teams.
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performance working environment.
  • Support the development and progression of project and site-based staff.
  • Encourage strong communication, accountability and teamwork across projects.

Commercial & Risk Management

  • Maintain strong commercial and contractual awareness throughout project delivery.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and financial performance.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to ensure contractual and financial targets are achieved.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and opportunities and implement appropriate actions.
  • Support value engineering and cost-saving initiatives where appropriate.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers effectively to ensure contractual obligations are met.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience working as a Contracts Manager within Civils environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of Civils and groundworks.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or contracts simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Good commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on programme and to budget.
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues.
  • IT proficient, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Project or similar.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, quality and customer service.
