SEMH 1:1 Support Assistant – Year 5
SEMH Support Assistant Brighton & Hove Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 3:30pm From £93 per day Full-Time | Term Time Only
A nurturing and forward-thinking primary school is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Support Assistant to work closely with a Year 5 pupil who requires additional emotional and behavioural support.
The pupil is highly capable academically but can find certain situations challenging and requires support to manage emotions, transitions, and relationships throughout the school day. When dysregulated, they can display behaviours that require calm, consistent adult support.
The school has adopted a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour and is committed to helping children regulate, reflect, and re-engage with learning.
The role will involve:
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Supporting emotional regulation throughout the day
- Using de-escalation and restorative approaches
- Encouraging engagement in lessons
- Working alongside teachers and external professionals
- Promoting confidence, independence, and resilience
Applicants should have:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, ADHD, or behavioural needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm and resilient approach under pressure
- A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable children
- Previous school-based experience
