This is a 12-month contract, covering Maternity Leave, appropriate for a newly qualified Clinical Psychologist, or a CBT therapist. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience working within the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Perinatal services. If you have been interested in working within Perinatal services but have not had the opportunity, this is a chance to find out if this is the specialism for you!
Most of the work will be within the small Maternal Mental Health Team (MMH), which is psychology led and has a very specific remit of working with tokophobia, birth trauma and perinatal loss. Therefore, the post holder would need to be prepared to work with trauma and baby loss, with full team support and supervision.
You will also provide specialised psychological therapy services within the Maternal and Perinatal Mental Health Teams.
This post will emphasise direct patient contact while providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy and to provide advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychological therapy colleagues.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)
The main duties will include direct clinical work, attendance at MDT meeting and providing psychological consultation. The psychological therapy pathways are as stated above for MMH but much wider for the Perinatal team, supporting birthing people and their families through the antenatal period, birth experience and postnatal care. The post holder will join an established and supportive team of Clinical Psychologists and psychological practitioners.
The perinatal frame of mind is a vital part of the services; therefore you would be working with individuals, couples, identifying difficulties in parent-infant relationships and within a whole family approach. The psychological approaches are varied, including CBT for trauma, EMDR, CFT and in Perinatal we also offer Behavioural Couples therapy as well as specific parent-infant models such as VIG and Circle of Security. The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake training appropriate for the length of contract, including specialist Perinatal competency training as part of induction. There is also a strong emphasis in the Trust and within the psychology team on compassionate, effective leadership, meaning we can provide a supportive and developmental approach to management and clinical supervision.
The teams strive to work within a trauma informed value base, which very much fits with the Leicestershire Partnership Trust values and vision. We have excellent links with the local University of Leicester DClinPsy course and we can provide the post holder with a very well developed network with regional and national Perinatal services.
Shortlisting criteria
Qualifications (Essential Criteria)
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or UK HCPC approved and recognised equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology and registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC.
- OR Post graduate qualified CBT therapist, recognised by the appropriate professional body (BABCP).
Knowledge (Essential Criteria)
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management of risk, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
Experience (essential Criteria)
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting.
- Experience of working with trauma.
- Experience of working within an NHS setting.
