Job Description:

We are looking to recruit a new Life Skills Youth Coach for our Supported Housing service in Mansfield/Ashfield and Nottingham City Centre. You will be part of an exciting new team to develop the service we will be offering to our young people.

This is an amazing role where you will deliver an impactful learning programme for Looked After Children, Care Leavers and other young adults, to develop social, emotional and independent living skills to achieve their potential.

You will seek to foster a positive, nurturing environment that will help young people achieve their potential while working collaboratively with other agencies to enhance their life chances.

You’ll play a crucial role in shaping the lives of those you support and share our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are who they can become.

On a day to basis, you will

  • Deliver engaging life skills training sessions that empower young people to engage with and contribute to their communities.
  • Deliver sessions aroundcleaning, cooking, budgeting, engaging with digital services, engaging with health services and positive use of leisure time plus sessions relevant to the need of our specific young people.
  • Act as a mentor, guiding residents on work readiness and personal development, fostering close connections that aid in self-discovery.
  • Individualise training methods to enhance personal growth, adapting to the diverse needs of each resident.
  • Conduct regular skill assessments to track progress and help set achievable goals, ensuring a focus on safety and welfare.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote attendance and engagement in life skills workshops, creating a positive learning environment.

About You

From a background in working with young people in a support or educational role, you will be able to bring knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practices and the ability to model this approach consistently.

Drawing on this experience, you will be able to engage, inspire and motivate young people towards those vital life skills and have the techniques and ideas from your previous experience to use a wide range of different approaches to maximise engagement in a fun, age-appropriate way.

You will be a brilliant communicator; whether dealing with your staff or our residents. You will be confident in 1-2-1 communication and in group settings, able to represent your service area at team and wider organisation meetings.

Your knowledge of social housing, homelessness, safeguarding, the benefits system and available resources will ensure your ability to make an impactful and meaningful contribution to our work and ultimately, support the young people on their journey.

It is desirable that you have a full driving licence (as travel between our sites may be required) but these can be accessed by public transport if required.
