Freight Specialist

Location: Greater Edinburgh, Scotland

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (DOE)

Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm)

Alexander Steele are delighted to be supporting a growing wholesale business seeking a Freight Specialist to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced logistics professional with strong international freight and customs knowledge to join a growing organisation. The role will focus on managing the movement of goods across multiple markets, developing key logistics partnerships, and ensuring products move efficiently, compliantly and cost-effectively throughout the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of international and domestic freight activities, ensuring goods are delivered on time and in full.
  • Build and manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs agents, warehousing partners and transport providers.
  • Coordinate import and export shipments while ensuring all customs and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Support bonded storage operations and maintain visibility of stock moving through customs-controlled environments.
  • Monitor logistics performance, identifying opportunities to improve service levels, reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
  • Investigate and resolve freight-related issues including delays, shortages, damaged goods and customs queries.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to align inventory availability with customer and business requirements.
  • Produce regular logistics reports and performance analysis to support operational decision making.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and help strengthen internal customs and trade compliance capabilities.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience within freight forwarding, international logistics, supply chain or import/export operations.
  • Strong understanding of customs procedures, international shipping documentation and trade compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of bonded warehousing and customs-controlled stock movements would be highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing third-party logistics providers and external supply chain partners.
  • Able to interpret data and KPIs to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and logistics reporting systems.
