Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services Location: Manchester Job Type: Full-time
The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Manchester team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to work on a range of interesting building services projects across sectors including commercial, residential, hospitality, healthcare, data centres, infrastructure, manufacturing and technology.
You’ll be involved in project delivery from design through to completion, working closely with clients, contractors and other engineering disciplines.
The Role Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering mechanical design work from initial brief through to completion.
- Producing mechanical calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant regulations, standards and client requirements.
- Coordinating mechanical design with other MEP disciplines and consultants.
- Reviewing contractor and subcontractor information.
- Carrying out site visits and checking installations against the design.
- Attending design, client and project meetings.
- Supporting testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Managing your own workload and delivering work to agreed deadlines.
- Taking responsibility for smaller projects or the mechanical discipline on larger schemes.
- Making technical decisions and taking ownership of project delivery.
- Delegating and checking work completed by other engineers.
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
- Contributing to project scope, risk and cost management.
- Building positive relationships with clients, contractors and consultants.
About You We’re looking for someone with:
- A degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related subject.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and HVAC systems.
- Experience producing mechanical calculations and drawings.
- IEng or CEng status, or currently working towards professional registration.
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Experience working on building services projects within a consultancy or similar environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with site inspections, contractor submissions and testing/commissioning.
- Good organisation and the ability to manage your own workload.
- Commercial awareness around project scope, costs and risks.
- An interest in mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
- A commitment to professional development.
