Summer Research Associate – Fraud & Critical Community Infrastructure (London, Hybrid)

What We Offer
- Stipend: £8,500 for the full placement
- Travel budget: Up to £1,500
- Location: London, based at the new Virtual Routes office at Ironmonger House, with flexibility for hybrid working arrangements
- Contract Type: Fixed‑term placement of 8–10 weeks
- Working Requirement: A minimum of four weeks in-person at the London office (Ironmonger House) during the placement
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on current digital fraud trends, with a focus on implications for organisations providing critical community infrastructure
- Assess threat patterns, vulnerabilities, and practical response measures
- Produce a policy‑relevant research report for publication by Virtual Routes
- Support the design and organisation of an online workshop for relevant community‑level organisations
- Develop programme content based on research findings
- Assist with outreach, speaker coordination, and event logistics
- Contribute, where relevant, to broader Virtual Routes initiatives, including research, events, and educational activities
- Maintain clear documentation related to project progress and outputs
What We Are Looking For
Experience: Demonstrated research and writing experience. Prior exposure to cybersecurity, fraud prevention, critical infrastructure, or digital policy is an advantage.
Education: A relevant degree (or current enrolment in a postgraduate programme) in areas such as cybersecurity, public policy, international relations, law, criminology, economics, or related fields.
Attributes: Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and communicate findings clearly to non‑specialist audiences.
Skills: Strong analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders in a professional setting.
Domain Interest: A clear interest in cybersecurity, digital risks, or resilience of public‑interest organisations is required.
