An exciting opportunity to work with a well-established London based ship registry in the capacity of Technical Compliance Officer within the Inspections & Surveys Department

To be considered, you should hold either a Chief engineer Unlimited, Master Mariner Unlimited license or Bachelor’s / Master’s degree Naval Architecture

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide assistance with queries from ship owners, managers, recognized organizations and other Departments in the Authority.
  • Manage and give oversight to the annual inspection regime and instigate appropriate follow-up measures as required.
  • Manage and give oversight to Port State detentions and initiate appropriate measures as required.
  • Conduct reviews for compliance with statutory requirements and issue appropriate certification.
  • Prepare and deliver departmental presentations whenever the need arises.
  • Conduct technical review of vessels proposed for registration and make appropriate recommendations to the Registrar.
  • Attend and, where instructed, lead and/or arrange meetings with clients, Recognised Organisations, inspectors and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the Emergency Response Officer for the Maritime Authority on a rotational basis.

Experience Required:

  • Hold or have held a recognised Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer Officer OR Master Mariner (STCW III/2), or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant maritime discipline (e.g. Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ship Science, Marine Operations, Maritime Science, etc.)
  • Seagoing experience at senior level (Chief Engineer/Master preferred, minimum Second Engineer/ Chief Officer)
  • Survey experience with a recognised Classification Society or Flag State Administration (Highly desirable)
  • Member of a Recognised Professional Body (e.g. Royal Institution of Naval Architects, Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology) (Preferred)
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
  • Must have the right to work in the UK
