Job Overview

Priory Hospital Ayr Clinic is looking to recruit a Learning Disability Nurse to join the team. This is a full‑time role of 37.5 hours. The position is located in Ayr Clinic, Ayrshire, Scotland, and is part of a low‑secure service for males and females with a mental health diagnosis and/or a personality disorder, including step‑down services at Lochlea House and Gatehouse.

Compensation

£36,176 – £41,953 per year.

Responsibilities

You will be part of a compassionate team committed to our patients’ wellbeing, using proven therapies to support their recovery. As a Learning Disability Nurse you will assist qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertake routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients, and will:

  • Deliver prescribed care to a defined group within an agreed framework.
  • Assess, plan and deliver nursing care with the patient and their carer/family, acting as the patient’s named nurse.
  • Accurately observe and engage with patients in order to assess their needs and evaluate their progress.
  • Monitor and review Nursing Care plans.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a qualified Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse (RNLD) with active NMC registration, 6–12 months post‑registration experience, completion of a preceptorship, and at least six months’ experience in mental health or learning disabilities care. You should have a good understanding of NMC guidelines, demonstrate ongoing professional development, and possess a positive attitude, commitment to improvement, a flexible approach and strong communication skills.
