Location: Leeds
Job Description:

We’re looking for a mid-level PHP Developer to join a delivery-focused team building and evolving a suite of platforms used by global brands.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working close to the fundamentals – building, improving and maintaining applications in a custom-built environment, rather than relying on off-the-shelf frameworks.

The role

You’ll be working across a range of internal and client-facing platforms, contributing to the development and improvement of web-based platforms and applications that support complex content and data workflows.

Day to day, that looks like:

  • Developing and maintaining backend services and applications using PHP
  • Taking ownership of features and tasks from development through to completion
  • Writing clean, efficient and maintainable code aligned to agreed standards
  • Working with databases, including writing and optimising SQL queries
  • Collaborating with Product Owners, QA and other developers to ensure solutions are clear, tested and aligned to requirements
  • Identifying and resolving defects, performance issues and edge cases
  • Contributing to improving existing systems and reducing technical debt

You’ll be part of a team that values delivery, quality and continuous improvement, not just getting something live.

The platforms are built using an in-house, custom framework. There isn’t reliance on frameworks like Laravel or Symfony, so this role suits someone who:

  • is comfortable working outside of standard frameworks
  • enjoys understanding how systems work and improving them over time

Your experience

  • Experience building web applications using PHP
  • Comfortable working on backend or full-stack systems
  • Experience working with databases and writing SQL queries
  • Experience working in a team environment (Agile or similar)
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through
  • You’re adaptable in how you approach problems
  • You’re open to learning and working in different ways
  • You focus on building things well, not just quickly

Why this role?

  • Opportunity to work on platforms that are genuinely different from standard web builds
  • A team that values clarity, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Real ownership and the chance to make a tangible impact
  • Scope to grow, whether you’re building on early experience or bringing something more established

This is a hybrid position (3 days a week onsite in Central Leeds – 5 mins from the train station).
