Bank – Senior Finance Business Partner

Band: 8b £34.05 – £39.57 per hour

Hours: 37.5 per week (flexible working considered)

Bank period: Tuesday 5th May – 31st May 2026

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated qualified accountant to be a key part of the Surgical Division at Milton Keynes Hospital to work Bank during the period of Tuesday 5th of May to 31st of May 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Head of Financial Management.
  • Lead month end close and budget setting for the division.
  • Ensure team resources are deployed effectively to meet key deadlines.
  • Build relationships with divisional and service managers and clinicians to support resource management within income generated by services.
  • Work closely with divisions on budget setting, budgetary management, forecasting and efficiency plans, and lead on Trust-wide developments and business cases.
  • Provide expert, specialist and in-depth financial advice and support to the Surgical Division, Director of Finance, Deputy Directors of Finance and other managers.
  • Promote a professional approach within the clinical Division ensuring that the financial consequence of service change/development are fully considered and evaluated, and provide direction and support to achieve Divisional, Trust and national targets.
  • Lead on Trust-wide improvement projects: defining current processes, facilitating discussions, advising on best practice, documenting agreed processes, and overseeing delivery.
  • Produce monthly financial reporting packs, clearly outlining performance and contractual targets, identifying required actions to improve financial performance.
  • Use corporate templates to produce monthly forecasts on activity and expenditure with CSU colleagues; present forecasts in formal meetings; mitigate risks and exploit opportunities.
  • Develop business cases with the finance programme manager, ensuring robust, evidence-based content in Trust format.
  • Present complex information about projects, initiatives and services to stakeholders in formal settings.
  • Encourage, support and facilitate staff to contribute and innovate for improvement of patient care, efficiency, safety, quality and effectiveness of services.
  • Work within the divisional triumvirate in a multidisciplinary way, supporting colleagues and taking on joint responsibilities and workload.
  • Operate with discretion and without direct supervision, balancing competing priorities and dealing with contentious issues.
  • Act as a leadership role model, demonstrating the Trust’s values and behaviours at all times.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (e.g., CCAB qualified).
  • Strong financial management expertise.
  • Proven partnership and influencing skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Experience in month end close, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of NHS financial policies and procedures (e.g., SFI, SO).
