Job summary

BARDOC is seeking to appoint a Non‑Executive Director to its Board. The successful candidate will provide independent oversight, strategic guidance, and constructive challenge to support the organisation in delivering safe, effective, and sustainable urgent care services.

The organisation plays a vital role in the delivery of integrated urgent and unscheduled care, working in partnership with healthcare systems to ensure accessible and responsive services for local populations.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and overall governance of BARDOC
  • Provide independent scrutiny and constructive challenge to the executive team
  • Support the delivery of high‑quality urgent and unscheduled care services
  • Ensure robust governance frameworks and regulatory compliance are maintained
  • Promote the delivery of integrated care across healthcare systems
  • Participate actively in Board meetings and relevant sub‑committees
  • Chair sub‑committees as required

Qualifications – Essential

  • Experience of working within the healthcare sector
  • A strong understanding of urgent care and unscheduled care services
  • Board‑level experience, preferably within a healthcare or public sector organisation
  • Understanding and experience of neighbourhood models and integrated care delivery
  • Experience of working with the voluntary sector
  • Experience of governance within the healthcare sector
  • Commercial experience and awareness
  • Knowledge and understanding of primary and community care services
  • Previous experience of chairing committees or sub‑committees
  • Understanding of how organisations such as BARDOC are funded and operate financially, including income streams, cost pressures, and financial sustainability within healthcare settings

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Experience of working within the charitable sector
