UKRISalary: £46,743 per annum.Band: UKRI Band E.Contract Type: Open ended.Hours: Full-time/ Part Time. (minimum 0.8 FTE) (flexible working available)Location: Polaris House, Swindon – Hybrid Working – Minimum 2 days per week in the office.

Role Overview

The Workplace Investigations Senior Manager will be responsible for ensuring that investigations are completed in line with best practice as part of a professional investigation service. The role supports the effective and professional enforcement of UKRI policies through investigations and informal processes that enable good outcomes and maintain UKRI’s reputational standing.

The role will operate within a team of five and alongside a pool of trained investigators embedded in UKRI teams, as well as third-party investigators. The postholder will support proper use of investigation resources and ensure timely investigations relied upon for decision making.

The investigations will cover concerns raised in relation to the following policies:

  • Grievances, Bullying & Harassment & Discrimination
  • Whistleblowing
  • Health and Safety
  • Safeguarding, Complaints, Managing Performance and Conduct
  • Research Integrity
  • Modern Slavery
  • Research Misconduct

The Workplace Investigations Senior Manager is a subject matter expert with significant experience in leading investigations work. Each investigation requires a tailored terms of reference reflecting the specific circumstances of the concern with the decision maker for the case.

They will deliver investigations including investigation plans, quality assurance of working papers, and drafting of reports. They will work with partners to ensure reports meet expectations and that actions from investigations are taken forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the triage of complex concerns received into the Digital Front Door and complex case management meetings.
  • Undertake workplace investigations, ensuring timely and quality delivery of cases in accordance with legislation and UKRI policies, such that the work can be relied upon for disciplinary or other action.
  • Deliver investigations efficiently and effectively.
  • Obtain technical case direction and decision-making for complex cases, working with legal, HR and other collaborators.
  • Author high quality reports on investigation outcomes to enable enforcement of UKRI policies and related informal processes.
  • Peer review terms of reference, investigation reports, and advice. Identify risks and escalate to stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality, solving complex problems where strategy and governance are relevant.
  • Foster effective relationships with a diverse set of collaborators to support investigations and engagement across the organisation.
  • Support continuous improvement in investigative processes, talent development, and service excellence.
  • Draft updates and professional guidance to stakeholders to support decision-making.

  • PHSO Complaints Handling Standards.

Personal Specification

  • Investigations training from an accredited provider, with CPD evidence. (S)
  • Experience delivering workplace investigations with case management systems. (S&I)
  • Experience collaborating with executive teams and advising senior management. (S&I)
