This is an exciting opportunity to join the Disabled Children & Therapy Service (DC&TS) and to work in a specialist, multi-disciplinary team which supports disabled children, young people and their families.
About the Role
The Disabled Children & Therapy Service (DC&TS) is a specialist, multi-disciplinary service that supports disabled children, young people and their families whose main need for services arises from their disability or intrinsic condition. The service intervenes where children’s needs cannot be fully met by universal services alone, providing statutory social care assessments and services at various tiers.
Disabled Children’s Family Workers:
- Work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate support and provide regular reviews of needs after statutory social work assessments.
- Hold case responsibility for direct work with disabled children and young people aged 0 to 18 years and their parents/carers.
- Use evidence-based approaches and intervention skills such as the Outcomes Star, Signs of Safety, Motivational Interviewing and the Family Partnership Model.
- Devise Child Support Plans, undertake Section 17 family assessments, provide immediate support during family emergencies, and review progress against agreed outcomes.
- Contribute to social work-led support and maintain a solution-focused, goal-oriented approach.
This is a public/customer-facing role, subject to the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers and enhanced criminal record disclosure checks.
About You
- At least 3 years’ experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
- Relevant Level 3 qualification.
- Excellent understanding of the needs of disabled children, young people and their families, recognising parents as experts.
- Track record of improving outcomes for disabled children.
- Passion for disability, energetic, motivated, and able to make practice enjoyable.
- Committed to multi-agency work and a strengths-based approach to develop resilience and reduce dependency.
- Knowledge of statutory services and relevant agencies, with flexibility to include all family members and support networks.
Working Pattern
Full-time post:Monday – Thursday: 08:45 – 17:15Friday: 08:45 – 16:45Compressed hours may be considered.
