Overview

Base Location: For this role, successful applicants must be based in one of our Scottish locations. You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office in Perth, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Salary: £58,100 – £75,000 + car/allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

The role

As part of our Net Zero journey, the Onshore AC Project Engineering team is seeking a Senior OHL Project Engineer to join our new Customer Connections team. You’ll support the rapid delivery of multiple OHL connection projects, championing standard tower and pole designs, innovative survey and construction techniques, and efficient engineering processes that enable fast, repeatable delivery across the high‑voltage network.

  • Provide specialist OHL engineering leadership, helping deliver a high volume of Customer Connection projects quickly and consistently through standardised designs and efficient, repeatable engineering practices.
  • Support and mentor early‑career engineers, promoting capability development, shared learning and a culture of continuous improvement across the OHL discipline.
  • Lead OHL design development and assurance, championing standard tower/pole solutions, optimised line routing methodology, and accelerated construction methodologies that reduce programme duration and minimise rework.
  • Support the preparation and technical input for Section 37 applications, ensuring OHL designs and routing approaches are compliant, well‑justified and aligned to programme and stakeholder requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with specialist OHL contractors and internal delivery teams, ensuring designs support fast, high‑quality installation and a consistent, standardised handover into the operational network.

You have

  • Demonstrable experience working on the transmission network, with in‑depth knowledge of Overhead Lines specifically development/design/specification and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
  • A keen focus on design standardisation and driving continuous improvements in business processes, procedures and systems and a passion for developing Pipelines Engineers.
  • Understanding the technical requirements for design, planning, operation and development of the transmission network and aspects requiring coordination with other project disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills, and you must be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
  • Achieved, or actively working towards, Chartered Engineering Status.
