Job Description:

Murphy is recruiting for a Project Manager to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities as part of the AMP8 programme. Murphy is a long‑standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, operating over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Manager

  • Plan and deliver all work on a medium sized site or many smaller sites, ensuring work is completed on time and to the correct standard.
  • Ensure contract programmes are planned, reviewed and delivered.
  • Build and develop the wider operational team to deliver all aspects of the project/contract requirements.
  • Line manage Site Managers, Assistant Site Managers and Section Managers.
  • Be responsible for effective client relationship management and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders on project/contract progress.
  • Ensure risk assessments are created, in place and reviewed as and when required.
  • Ensure operating plans are in place to secure sufficient resources and materials.
  • Manage a contract with an indicative turnover of between £1M–£15M per annum.
  • Lead all commercial activities associated with the project including the delivery of the gross margin, management of cost control and other key commercial and financial metrics.
  • Implement CDP (Cultural Development Programme) on your sites.

  • Successful experience as a Project Manager with demonstrable acumen to deliver a good profit margin.
  • Previous experience on a water/utilities project worth £15 million or more.
  • Previous experience delivering horizontal drilling and pipe jacking operations is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and performance manage.
  • IT literate: Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Experience of planning and estimating.
