Overview
The Faculty of History is recruiting a part‑time (0.5 FTE) Research and Administration Assistant to support Professor Mia Bay, the Paul Mellon Professor of American History. The role provides administrative, academic and research support in teaching, research and the Cambridge American History Seminar (CAHS) and other related initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Co‑ordinate Professor Bay’s teaching activities, including scheduling, communication and day‑to‑day administrative tasks.
- Provide research and administrative support for Professor Bay’s professional work (e.g., literature reviews, data collation, drafting reports).
- Manage email, SharePoint and other online systems; maintain web content using standard web management platforms.
- Organise and administer CAHS, including events, workshops, conferences and related American history programmes.
- Assist with the administration of Mellon‑funded prizes and other support for Americanist faculty and students.
- Oversee aspects of the Cambridge–Boston‑University student exchange programme on the Cambridge side.
- Maintain accurate records and deliver high‑quality information to senior staff.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar academic support role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
- Demonstrated experience organising a variety of academic events.
- Experience of undertaking research tasks, with the ability to collate and present information clearly and accurately.
- Capacity to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- Confidence in using digital tools and web content management systems.
