Job Description:

We’re looking for a Data Governance Manager (Grade 12) to join our Data Governance team at Elexon on a permanent basis. In this important role, you’ll support the design and delivery of Elexon’s data governance frameworks, helping to ensure data is trusted, protected, and well‑managed as Elexon processes increasing volumes of complex energy and personal data. Working closely with colleagues across Technology, Legal, Information Security, and wider business teams, you’ll play a key role in strengthening data quality, reducing risk, and maintaining regulatory confidence across the GB electricity market.

What you’ll do

  • Support the design and implementation of enterprise‑wide data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
  • Implement Elexon’s Data Ownership Model across critical technology programmes and business units
  • Manage and support Data Stewards, ensuring effective delivery across key data products
  • Oversee the rollout and adoption of the enterprise data catalogue, ensuring consistent data definitions and discoverability
  • Ensure alignment across Data Governance, Data Protection, and Information Security policies and controls
  • Identify, manage, and report on data risks, ensuring controls are documented, owned, and operating effectively
  • Guide investigation and resolution of data quality issues, driving continuous improvement
  • Support compliance with regulatory and industry data best practices, providing assurance to regulators where required
  • Deliver data governance communications and data literacy training to raise awareness and capability across Elexon
  • Prepare reporting on enterprise and programme‑level data risks and control implementation

What you’ll bring

  • Experience managing or leading a data governance or data quality function
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, governance frameworks, and regulatory standards
  • Experience developing and implementing data governance policies, standards, and controls
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams and influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience addressing data quality and risk issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of data lifecycle management and data cataloguing approaches
  • Knowledge of data protection regulations such as GDPR
  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Purview or similar (desirable)
  • Experience working within the energy, utilities, or regulated sectors (desirable)
