Assistant Farm Manager – Free Range Eggs – Kent
A well established farming business in the South East is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager to support the day-to-day running of a modern free‑range egg production site. This is a hands‑on role working closely with the Farm Manager to ensure high standards of bird welfare, farm productivity, and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will help oversee the management of approximately 180,000 free‑range hens across a large farm site and support a small team to maintain excellent standards across the operation.
Hours: 42.75 hours per week. Salary: £37,000 per year + company house.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily management of a free‑range laying farm.
- Monitor bird health, welfare and overall flock performance.
- Assist with the management of approximately 180,000 hens across the farm.
- Support egg production operations and oversee the egg collection process.
- Lead, train and support farm staff to maintain high standards of care.
- Ensure biosecurity, hygiene and welfare standards are followed at all times.
- Carry out routine checks on housing, feeding and watering systems.
- Assist with house turnarounds and general farm maintenance.
- Maintain farm equipment, infrastructure and supplies.
- Keep accurate records including egg production, bird health and mortality rates.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with welfare, hygiene and health & safety standards.
As part of the accommodation package, the role will also include some evening checks and on‑site security duties to help safeguard bird welfare and respond to emergencies if required.

Candidate Requirements
- Previous poultry or livestock farming experience.
- Practical, hands‑on approach to farm management.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and support farm staff.
- Strong understanding of animal welfare and biosecurity.
- Comfortable working outdoors and responding to farm operational needs.
- Experience working on free‑range egg production farms.
- Knowledge of industry welfare and assurance standards.
- All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2 or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role.
- Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
