Overview
This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced project manager with a background in the logistics industry. Reporting to the Lead Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering new business implementations that shape the future of logistics and warehousing services. As Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering new business implementations within agreed timescales and budgets, ensuring the smooth and successful implementation and start‑up. Collaborating with a range of business functions, including operations, IT, HR and HS&E, you will orchestrate activities to deliver the necessary scope while managing risks and issues. This hybrid role is based in Northampton, with the opportunity to work up to 3 days remotely per week (subject to business requirement) and some UK site‑based travel required, as per project specifications.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional technical advice and service, ensuring projects are correctly scoped and defined.
- Manage project teams by organizing own workload and coordinating internal and third‑party resources to ensure deliverables are met.
- Ensure full budget compliance throughout the project lifecycle; final sign‑off remains the responsibility of higher management.
- Apply experience to resolve roadblocks and ensure projects are delivered on time and to required technical standards through day‑to‑day management and adherence to methodology.
- Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships and liaise with internal and external customers at a management level.
- Schedule and facilitate meetings and steering committees, providing technical updates that require professional interpretation.
- Contribute to management processes and reporting into the PMO.
- Ensure team compliance with company procedures and monitor team performance to meet service levels and technical standards.
- Remain responsible for day‑to‑day management of the project team, identifying required skills and providing coaching.
- Use coaching techniques to counsel employees, utilizing on‑the‑job experience or part‑professional qualifications to maintain dialogue.
- Enhance customer relationships by providing technical service and implementing initiatives that improve customer satisfaction.
- Remove obstacles to maintain a customer‑focused environment, ensuring all actions protect the service reputation of the company.
- Manage day‑to‑day interactions where omissions would be apparent within a few weeks or months.
- Develop team momentum, collaboration and pride while being responsible for day‑to‑day management of the team.
- Check and monitor staff to achieve results, drawing on technical standards and practical experience.
- Effectively confront routine conflict situations, referring non‑routine problems to a manager as appropriate.
- Address routine issues under pressure; refer non‑routine problems to the manager for resolution.
- Display confidence in providing and applying technical solutions and coordinate with other departments to meet service levels.
- Develop and contribute to new methods or procedures that support management processes.
- Act in anticipation of changes within your area, ensuring budget compliance and technical standards are maintained.
- Encourage the team to take initiative in daily tasks to meet challenging deadlines.
- Prioritise and organise your workload on a day‑to‑day basis to meet project objectives.
- Take responsibility for meeting technical standards, acknowledging that errors in judgment may affect the financial reputation of the company.
Qualifications
- A‑levels / NVQ. Bachelor’s Degree (desirable) or equivalent Project Management or Change Management qualification (desirable).
- Proven experience in the logistics industry, working across functions, cultures and geographies.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Technical experience in project/change management requiring interpretation of complex data and processes.
- Knowledge acquired through part‑professional qualification or significant on‑the‑job experience.
- Proven ability to motivate a team and manage a small business operation or specific workstream independently.
- Proven ability to ensure budget compliance and maintain the company’s service reputation.
- High degree of organisational, communication and administrative skills to provide technical advice requiring interpretation.
- Ability to engage and influence others, effectively building relationships at a managerial level with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively organise own workload on a day‑to‑day basis to meet challenging deadlines while working alongside operational teams.
- PC literate (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Teams) with the ability to create professional materials that support management processes.
- Demonstrate an open and honest leadership style, managing day‑to‑day performance of a team or small business operation.
