Nature Project Manager – Delivery Phase

Caerlaverock Estate, on behalf of the Caerlaverock Cluster, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery phase of a large‑scale biodiversity project spanning approximately 20 km² across Caerlaverock Estate, Southwest Scotland.

Role Overview

As the Project Manager you will collaborate with estate staff, tenant and neighbouring farmers, and the local community to deliver a landscape‑changing restoration programme. You will shape and implement project plans, manage budgets, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure high‑quality reporting.

Project Highlights

  • Creation of ponds, wildlife corridors, wetland corridors, tree planting, and meadows to boost biodiversity.
  • Improving water flow and quality for nature, food production and community needs.
  • Control of invasive, non‑native species.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed processes and timelines for delivery phase activities.
  • Create action plans for each holding, balancing tenants’ self‑directed work with efficiencies in bulk procurement.
  • Lead community engagement and advertise the project.
  • Engage wildlife and environmental groups for specialist input during implementation.
  • Manage sourced funding, maintain project budgets and pursue additional funders.
  • Update GIS maps to track delivery progress.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and a comprehensive completion report.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Open and questioning mindset

  • Proven experience in project management of delivery phase projects
  • Practical experience in ground excavation, fencing and tree planting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in mapping software
  • Strong stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Strong problem‑solving skills
  • Experience managing site contractors and regulatory compliance
  • Self‑motivated, able to manage own workload and deliver outcomes on time
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience managing nature or environmental projects in land use, nature restoration, conservation or sustainable agriculture
  • Knowledge of funding mechanisms for environmental and rural projects
  • Familiarity with Scottish rural and land management policy
  • Experience working with agricultural communities

Employment Details

The role is based at Caerlaverock Estate Office, with occasional travel within and outside the Estate. The contract starts as soon as possible after 1 May 2026 and ends 30 March 2028. Full‑time, with flexible working arrangements possible.
