Job Description
As a Project Manager in the PMCM Rail team at WSP, you will deliver complex rail projects of regional, national, and international significance, ensuring safe, timely, and cost‑effective completion.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate relevant disciplines through project meetings and workshops, resolving issues promptly.
- Establish robust processes and procedures in partnership with the client’s team.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client across design and construction phases.
- Develop and manage client and stakeholder relationships, using effective listening and influencing skills.
- Compile monthly project reports and data‑based scenarios for senior managers.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders – regulatory bodies, authorities, community groups.
- Facilitate regular project meetings, presentations, and progress reports.
- Address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations.
- Manage contracts in accordance with NEC3 & 4 rules of engagement.
- Manage project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, reporting, and invoice approval.
- Optimise resource utilisation to align financial performance with project goals.
- Review and approve project expenditures and invoices.
- Manage changes and delays, ensuring resolution or mitigation and process improvement.
- Identify and mitigate risks, establishing appropriate mitigation measures.
- Handle RFIs, early warnings, and communications to reduce risk.
- Act as a safety leader, driving safety performance and complying with CDM regulations.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and environmentally responsibly.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables with clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with planners to develop detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and risk management.
- Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to plans and schedules.
- Monitor progress, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive innovative design and construction solutions, evaluating new technologies and methodologies.
Qualifications
- Degree in engineering, construction management, science, or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, or nearing completion of such status.
- Certifications in APM, MSP, PMI, PRINCE2, Six Sigma considered beneficial.
- Experience managing NEC3/4 contracts.
- Experience in technical, project, and project controls management.
- Demonstrated client‑side project delivery (design and build) on significant projects.
- Experience working with organizations such as Transport for Wales, Network Rail, or similar.
- Proven ability to manage successful workstreams within multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated curiosity, solution‑focused mindset, and responsiveness to client issues.
