We are looking for an experienced Director of Health Services to lead our medical, public health and occupational health services across Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines.
This is a senior leadership role with real influence. You will set standards, guide best practice and ensure that our medical services support the wellbeing of both crew and guests, while meeting international regulations. The role is mainly remote, with travel required to stay closely connected to our ships and key stakeholders.

What you’ll be responsible for
In this role, you will:
- Lead and develop our medical, public health and occupational health policies and procedures, using evidence-based best practice
- Monitor global public health risks and help protect our operations and people
- Provide expert medical advice, including clinical decision-making, outbreak management, evacuations and medico‑legal matters
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including MLC 2006, Flag State requirements, ACEP and CLIA guidance
- Act as the Responsible Officer in line with UK medical regulations
- Lead, support and develop our onboard and shoreside medical teams, including recruitment and training
- Oversee departmental budgets and ensure effective cost management
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners across the industry
- Maintain effective systems for clinical governance, performance monitoring and professional development
About you
We are looking for someone who brings strong medical expertise and leadership experience, ideally within a maritime or cruise environment.
You will have:
- Medical Doctor qualification with experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice and Maritime Medicine
- Current GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Medical leadership experience or qualifications
- Experience working as a doctor on board cruise ships
- A strong understanding of cruise ship operations and the ability to manage services remotely, 24/7
- Sound judgement, strong problem‑solving skills and confidence handling complex or sensitive issues
- The ability to apply international public health guidance to a maritime setting
- Flexibility to travel as required
