As we continue our digital and data transformation, we’re looking to recruit a Fire ICT Engineer to join our Fire ICT Team. The ideal candidate will want to work within a dynamic, essential and supportive public service organisation where they can make a real difference across a range of exciting projects.

Reimagine the possibilities.

Your role and responsibilities

Working in Fire ICT, your days will be varied and busy, and will include tasks such as:

  • Maintaining specialised systems such as radio communications, telephony (including Integrated Communication Control System), and emergency alerting platforms.
  • Providing technical support for IT infrastructure, networking, systems, and data centre technologies including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
  • Participating in ICT projects and, following training, joining the on‑call rota to support critical systems out of hours.
  • Implementing security measures to protect data integrity and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with ICT policies and regulations.

  • Transferable skills, fresh perspectives and new ideas from a range of backgrounds – we welcome applicants with diverse experience.
  • Integrity, experience and enthusiasm, alongside a strong commitment to delivering high‑quality work.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (Word). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don’t meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team

You’ll be joining a supportive, forward‑thinking ICT team where your work will make a real difference every day. This role offers the opportunity to get hands‑on with meaningful technical challenges, from troubleshooting and problem‑solving through to delivering solutions that directly support our Service and the communities we serve.

The Fire ICT Team supports the critical blue light systems that keep Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service operational. This includes the technology used to alert personnel to incidents, mobile data terminals on fire engines that provide live information at incident grounds, our communication platforms (including mobile, Airwave and Wi‑Fi), and systems that capture vital operational data used to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.

Based at Ipswich East Fire Station at The Havens, Ransomes Europark, the team provides support for equipment and systems across all thirty‑five fire stations in Suffolk, as well as our primary and secondary Fire Control locations.

No two days are the same. The variety of systems, environments and challenges you’ll work with will allow you to develop new skills and gain valuable experience that you won’t find in many ICT roles.

Empowering Everyone

We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report.
