About the team
The Sustainability team is responsible for the firmwide strategy, policies and initiatives on sustainability and stewardship. It provides oversight, coordination and expertise across a number of areas related to our strategy:
- Stewardship, engagement and proxy voting
- Frameworks, tools and data to support ESG analysis and integration
- Sustainable product development and implementation of sustainability-related regulation
The team also manages our firmwide sustainability reporting and advocacy, and engagement with industry bodies and stakeholders.
We are seeking a highly motivated team player to help drive our firmwide commitment to sustainability across Invest, Advocate and Inhabit at Ninety One. Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, the role will support delivery against key strategic climate and nature-related priorities, including through research, investment team support, corporate engagement, advocacy and contributing to our client relationships.

In this role you will:
- Support investment teams to implement high-quality integration of climate, nature and other environmental themes, and support engagement with relevant entities on these issues
- Provide insights on risks, opportunities and trends relevant to climate, nature and transition investing to support alpha generation, inform engagements with companies and policymakers and deliver outcomes for clients
- Work with the risk and investment technology functions to develop and enhance the quality and availability of data and tools to assess climate, transition and nature risks and impacts
- Work with investment teams to deliver mandates and products with a particular focus on climate and nature objectives
- Develop relevant training and capacity-building sessions for investment teams and clients, undertake regular client engagements, including client teach-ins, door-opener meetings and helping to position existing strategies
- Represent Ninety One across a range of environmental and sustainability-related industry bodies and initiatives, including but not limited to IIGCC, CDP, NA100, CA100+, SBTi, SMI and GFANZ
- Support and contribute to firmwide content and messaging around climate change and nature
- Contribute to key internal governance forums, including the Sustainability Committee and the Sustainable Investment Advisory Forum (SIAF)
- Support RFP and specialised reporting requirements
You should consider applying if you have:
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in investment or ESG analysis, with a focus on climate and transition-related issues. Understanding of nature-related risks and impacts is also desirable
- Experience of investment and climate-related issues across different asset classes, with a strong technical understanding of a range of high-risk / impact sectors (e.g. energy; transport; agriculture; industrials; infrastructure)
- Strong research and analytical skills related to technological and policy solutions to climate change, and other technical issues relevant to analysing climate and nature risk, including scenario analysis, emissions accounting, and ESG data collection and analysis
- Strong analytical, project management, coordination and organisational skills, with a proven ability to prioritise
- A high level of comfort making presentations and interacting with investment teams, clients and industry bodies, and a demonstrated ability to deliver objectives and outcomes in a multi-stakeholder context
- Experience with emerging markets is particularly valuable
