The Hybrid Journals Editorial team is a vibrant and dynamic team of highly motivated individuals who are passionate about research and publishing. We are responsible for developing and growing a diverse portfolio of high-quality, valuable journals across the social sciences, STEM fields, and various business models to adapt to a changing market. Our collaborative efforts with external editors, society partners, and internal colleagues in editorial, marketing, and product innovation roles ensure the growth, success, and long-term sustainability of our program. Your New Role

As Publisher, you’ll take the lead on a strategically important portfolio of journals, ensuring their long‑term quality, visibility, and commercial success. You’ll nurture strong relationships with editors and societies, identify opportunities for growth, and make confident decisions that enhance the portfolio’s impact and profitability. You will lead, support, and develop a high‑performing team to deliver strategic outcomes across their portfolio, fostering a culture of clarity, trust, and continuous improvement.

This is a role for someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery, and who thrives in a relationship‑centred, intellectually curious environment.

  • Drive the editorial and commercial strategy for your journal portfolio, ensuring each title grows in quality, reach, and financial performance.
  • Strengthen partnerships with editors, societies, and boards, creating a collaborative environment that supports shared goals.
  • Lead contract negotiations and renewals, ensuring agreements are commercially sound and aligned with Sage’s strategic priorities.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and confidently shape recommendations that support sustainable portfolio growth.
  • Analyse profit and loss statements to inform decision‑making and ensure journals meet commercial expectations.
  • Identify emerging trends and translate them into actionable editorial strategies that keep the portfolio competitive.
  • Collaborate with global colleagues to deliver cross‑departmental projects that advance operational and strategic goals.
  • Represent Sage within the wider publishing community, championing our values and strengthening our industry presence.
