Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and organisedMedicalSecretaryto join our friendly and supportive team at Elm Tree Surgery. This is a part time position for 20hours per week , working Monday , Wednesday, Thursday and Friday .

The successful candidate will play an important role inproviding high-quality medical secretarial and administrative support to ourGPs and clinical staff, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operationswithin the practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial support to the clinical team, including typing and processing of referrals, reports, and correspondence.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing communications efficiently, including hospital letters, emails, and telephone calls.
  • Liaise with hospitals, community services, and patients to ensure timely information flow.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with practice and NHS policies.
  • Assist with workflow management and support the administrative team when required.

Job responsibilities

  • Previous experience working in a Primary Care or GP Practice setting(essential)
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in medical terminology and confident using SystmOne.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team
  • Knowledge of NHS referral systems such as eRS
  • Experience in document management and workflow processes

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Good general education GCSE English and Maths or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous experience working in a Primary Care or GP Practice setting
  • Proven experience in a medical secretarial or administrative role
  • Experience managing referrals, correspondence, and medical documentation
  • Experience using NHS systems such as SystmOne and eRS
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology
  • Understanding of current NHS referral and workflow processes
  • Knowledge of local healthcare services and pathways
  • Experience of liaising with hospitals and community health teams
