Real Chemistry is looking for a Medical Writer – Publications to join our growing team. What you’ll do
- Use a range of resources to understand the underlying science and product strategy related to assigned projects.
- Perform research to support assigned project work (knowledge mapping, collating data from resources) and review literature and competitive information to expand understanding of brand/marketplace and emerging competitors.
- Have an appreciation of commercial context and, with guidance, assimilate commercial information for assigned therapeutic areas.
- Demonstrate awareness of brand strategic objectives in written work.
- Understand and adhere to the ABPI code of conduct under guidance of the senior team and training.
- Structure and develop various forms of scientific communications (e.g. manuscripts, posters, abstracts, slide decks, MSL material, advisory board and symposia content and reports); annotate documents, perform data checks, and prepare reference packs.
- Use existing, or quickly develop, therapy area knowledge to ensure communication objectives are met on assigned projects (under supervision).
- Adapt writing style to suit different audiences (e.g. primary and secondary care physicians, nurses or patients) under supervision of the senior team and direct manager.
- Create, maintain and take ownership of assigned projects.
- Adhere to quality control processes, including proofreading.
- Communicate relevant therapy area knowledge to the wider team to keep them up to date as needed.
- Develop skills to liaise with clients with appropriate support from more senior team members and respond promptly to client requests.
- Participate in briefing for assigned work, interrogate the brief, and confirm understanding; ensure clarity on timelines, deadlines, and availability of reviewers.
- Prioritise workload and flag potential barriers to the account lead/line manager, suggesting solutions.
- Play a pivotal role within the editorial team, leading by example and applying good practice/industry guidelines.
- Recognise where skills can support colleagues in editorial and account handling teams; share insights to support professional development; seek and provide feedback to improve performance.
- Participate in performance reviews and deliver against objectives; support execution of editorial deliverables while adhering to project schedules, budgets, and briefs.
- Clarify hours available for each project, key dates in the timeline, and keep the account team informed with timely updates; complete timesheets and expense claims accurately and on time.
- Immerse in the medical communications and pharma industries, staying aware of developments, innovations, and trends; reflect these in project work and share ideas with teams.
What you should have
- Experience in medical writing, ideally in an agency setting.
- Understanding of GPP and ICMJE compliance for publications development.
- Relevant degree (minimum Masters, PhD preferred) in a science subject.
- Solid scientific background with ability to learn new therapeutic areas quickly.
- Good understanding of the clinical trials process and differences between Phases I-III; knowledge of how trial data are presented and the drug approval process.
- Knowledge of key statistical variables used in clinical trials (e.g. PFS, OS, safety data) and measurement scales (e.g. RECIST, EDSS).
- Enthusiasm for learning and eye for detail; ability to differentiate strong vs weak data; understanding of appropriate scientific language.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Independent thinker who can own assets while collaborating with a team; professional presence with client-service orientation.
- Ability to manage timelines, communicate issues upward when deadlines may not be met, and work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint.
