Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money.Min fees. Max ease. Full speed.

As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world’s money. For everyone, everywhere.

We’re looking for an Operational Risk Manager to support and contribute to the build, implementation and day-to-day management of our operational risk framework including disciplines such as risk incident management, risk and control assessments and scenarios, key risk indicators and monitoring activities. You will be a strategic partner to our first line (operations, product and engineering teams), ensuring we grow in control while maintaining our agile culture.

You’ll contribute to the mission by:

  • Supporting Wisers in rolling out and embedding core elements of the risk management framework
  • Data-Driven Oversight: Supporting Wisers in embedding core risk management across myriad operational risks facing Wise including operational resilience, third-party risk, people risk, and more
  • Metrics and KRIs : Partnering with our Analytics team to design innovative risk indicators (KRIs) and metrics that proactively identify operational control failures
  • Regulatory awareness and operationalisation: Interpreting relevant global regulatory landscapes to ensure our internal controls are designed to address these

What you’ll be doing:

Support in rolling out a best-in-class operational risk framework, including embedding of the risk and control assessment process, risk incident and issues management

Partnering with ‘first line’ teams to provide risk support in the assessment of operational risks, including in the development of new products and features by embedding good risk practices and finding solutions to problems, identifying risks and recommending controls

Playing a lead role in managing risk incidents, ensuring we move from “event” to “control improvement” in a seamless feedback loop

Supporting the development and implementation of risk policies, procedures, key risk indicators, and risk appetite statements

Conducting in-depth reviews and presenting data-led insights to the Operational Risk Committee, focusing on predictive trends rather than just lagging indicators

Promoting and helping embed a strong risk culture, making risk meaningful and relevant to everyone at Wise

What you’ll bring:

Sector expertise: Proven experience in Fintech or Banking with a deep understanding of payment services, operational controls, and global Operational Resilience standards

Domain expertise: You specialise in one or more subdomains of operational/non-financial risk but you are adaptable in managing operational risk both broadly across multiple risk domains

Risk fundamentals and innovation: Experience supporting risk assessments and/or operational risk event capture and analysis and finding new and innovative ways to do things

Data Fluency: You are highly confident in data-driven problem solving and can draw actionable insights from complex datasets

Technical Curiosity: While you don’t need to be a coder, and technology risk is a separate team, an adeptness at understanding technology and security risks is essential in our tech-led environment

Regulatory Acumen: Strong familiarity with the global regulatory drivers (FCA, PRA, etc.) that shape operational risk frameworks

Creative Problem Solving: The ability to think beyond established procedures to find innovative ways to manage risk without adding friction

Influence: You are a credible stakeholder who can provide both support and robust challenge to senior leaders
