The Commercial Finance Manager reports directly to the Finance Director and plays a pivotal role in driving financial performance, enabling strategic decision-making, and strengthening financial governance across the business.
This role holds long-term ownership of financial master data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and integrity across all systems. In addition, the role leads a team of three, with a future focus on evolving into a combined Commercial Finance and Master Data function.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Finance & Business Partnering
- Provide financial leadership and strategic insight to commercial, operational, and senior management teams.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning cycles, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly management reports, including variance analysis and clear performance commentary.
- Support pricing strategy, margin optimisation, and commercial negotiations.
- Develop robust financial models to support investment decisions, tenders, and business cases.
- Drive cost control initiatives and contribute to working capital improvement programmes.
- Support the external audit process, with a particular focus on stock valuation and management.
Master Data Management & Governance
- Own and maintain the financial master data framework across products, customers, suppliers, and financial hierarchies.
- Ensure master data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
- Oversee master data change processes, including approvals, governance, and documentation.
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and supply chain teams to enhance data workflows and system integrity.
- Implement and uphold data governance policies, ensuring consistent standards across the organisation.
- Monitor data quality KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Financial Control & Process Improvement
- Strengthen financial governance and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, reporting cycles, and system efficiencies.
- Support ERP system enhancements and upgrades, particularly relating to master data structures.
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional initiatives focused on operational and financial improvement.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
- Strong commercial finance background, with experience in FP&A, business partnering, or commercial analysis.
- Proven experience managing or governing master data within a finance or operational environment.
- Excellent analytical capability, with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights.
- Strong understanding of financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and underlying data structures.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with Power BI or similar analytics tools is advantageous.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
