Job Title: Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Central Birmingham (Hybrid – 4 days in office, 1 day WFH)

Salary: Up to £65,000 (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and growing building services consultancy in central Birmingham. This is a senior-level position offering genuine involvement in technically varied and high-profile projects across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design of building services installations across a variety of project types and sectors
  • Produce detailed design drawings using Revit (BIM)
  • Carry out lighting design using DIALux and/or Relux
  • Perform electrical system calculations using Amtech and Excel
  • Prepare specifications, design reports, and technical submissions
  • Manage projects through RIBA stages, coordinating with clients, architects, and contractors
  • Attend design team and client meetings; provide technical advice and design leadership
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their development
  • Ensure designs comply with current UK Building Regulations, BS 7671, and relevant CIBSE guidance
  • Contribute to sustainable, energy-efficient design solutions

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ UK-based building services electrical design experience
  • Strong electrical design background (LV systems, lighting, power, fire alarms, containment)
  • Proficient in DIALux and/or Relux for lighting design
  • Experienced with Amtech for electrical calculations
  • Competent in Revit and confident using Excel for engineering calculations
  • Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, BS 7671, and CIBSE guidance
  • Experience across multiple building sectors
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (IET / CIBSE) desirable
