Job title: Intermediate or Senior Surveyor
Salary: Up to £65k plus car allowance, pension, healthcare, salary sacrifice, cycle to work, electric car deals, bonus scheme
Office Location: Gloucester, GL2 2RN
Site Locations: from Bristol to Brimingham – Along the M5 corridor
Requirements:
- Experience with running projects by themselves.
- General construction contracting knowledge rather than just the housing sector.
- Experience with JCT Design & Build contracts.
- Commercially astute – maximise value and profit.
- Know how to claim for extensions of time and loss of expenses when/if needed.
- Be able to handle projects alone from £2-£10m in value
- Will need to be both site and office based. More site than office, 70/30, managing 2 projects at any one time.
- Not a hybrid role but flexible in emergency situations.
- For commitment purposes they’d prefer someone that doesn’t have a young family (school runs etc)
- They want someone that’s prepared to challenge colleagues when need but ultimately be collaborative.
- Subcontract orders get signed off by managers or directors beyond a certain value, but decisions are made quickly amongst the team, no one is out of reach.

- Types of projects are care homes or supported living housing association – flats etc
- They do a bit of housing development and commercial work too but minimal
- Family run business for 60 years – Tier 2-3 LTD contractor – That ethos is there.
- Forecast turnover £20million
Team structure & Systems
- Report into Senior Surveyor/Commercial Manager.
- Commercial team is made up of 1 Buyer, 1 Estimator, 1 Senior Surveyor and 1 Project Surveyor. Also have an apprentice starting later in the year.
- Currently using Excel which gets imported to an accounting system but they are in the process of implementing a whole new system called Causeway – This will help with project accounting and estimating – Previous experience is not essential.
Longevity and Opportunity: Simon been there 30 years. Mixture of senior and junior people. People stay more than 5 years on average. 20 people employed totally. There are senior people coming towards the end of their careers so opportunity for promotions.
