Head Of Technical

Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands‑on Head of Technical to lead the end‑to‑end technical function across a fast‑paced business. This role will be responsible for ensuring product quality, safety, compliance, and innovation across an extensive range of own‑label and branded products.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Leadership

• Define and execute the technical strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing technical team
• Act as the senior technical authority across the organisation

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all products meet UK, EU, and international regulatory requirements
• Oversee product safety, quality assurance, and risk management frameworks
• Maintain robust quality management systems and audit processes

Supplier & Product Management

• Approve and manage suppliers, ensuring adherence to technical and ethical standards
• Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and product quality
• Oversee product specifications, testing, and validation processes

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Commercial, NPD, and Supply Chain teams to deliver innovation
• Support speed‑to‑market while maintaining compliance and quality
• Influence senior stakeholders on technical risk and opportunity

Crisis & Risk Management

• Lead responses to product recalls, quality incidents, or regulatory challenges
• Implement proactive risk mitigation strategies

Candidate

• Extensive experience in a senior technical or quality leadership role
• Retailer experience
• Proven leadership experience managing and scaling technical teams
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive changeExperience working with global suppliers and complex supply chains desirable
• Strong commercial awareness alongside technical expertise
