Overview

SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD. is seeking an accounting manager to oversee the company’s financial and closing‑of‑books operations. The accounting manager will lead the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS, and manage day‑to‑day accounting operations, tax compliance, and provide financial analysis to support strategic decision‑making.

The role will coordinate regulatory reporting, budget planning, and support executive management in business decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end closing processes.
• Review monthly financial and management reporting.
• Monitor day‑to‑day financial operations (invoicing, payments, other transactions).
• Manage statutory accounting and tax filings (Corporate Income Tax, Consumption Tax).
• Act as primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
• Monitor internal financial controls.
• Streamline accounting processes, enhance controls, and implement system improvements.
• Maintain control environment (balance‑sheet reconciliations, P&L reviews).
• Develop risk‑minimising strategies and establish financial policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with FP&A, Treasury, and Legal on transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and reporting.
• Work with other departments to prepare budgets and related tasks.
• Develop long‑term business plans from financial reports.
• Provide advice on future business decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
• CA/CPA qualified accountant.
• Experience in planning and management reporting.
• Sound technical and practical knowledge of accounting and regulatory reporting.
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Preferred Skills

• Professional accounting qualification (CPA or CA).
• MS Office 365 experience.
• Experience in a Japanese company.
