Overview

Salary: base salary c£50,119pa to £58,963pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, a flexible benefits fund of 20% is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, alongside a range of competitive benefits available via the Benefits section on our website.

The Role

As a Construction Assurance Manager (CAM) at HS2 you will support the Senior Construction Assurance Manager (SCAM) in providing specialist constructability support and expertise to the HS2 NEC3 Project Manager. You will undertake a risk-based approach to the assurance of constructability of the Works, while maintaining health and safety standards, and supporting project delivery outcomes including quality, environmental impact, Undertakings and Assurance (U&A) obligations. You will work closely with HS2 Project Managers, the HS2 QHSSE Compliance Manager, and the Stakeholder and Interfaces Manager and Integrated Project Team (IPT).

The role objects to assure the installation of the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) for the tunnels, ventilation and intervention shafts and portal buildings. Experience in these areas is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the Senior Construction Assurance Manager in undertaking Constructability Assurance, taking a risk-based approach.
  • Supporting HS2 Project Managers by providing specialist advice and expertise at all stages of the construction process for contract administration.
  • Co-ordinating and undertaking safety tours and other site-based HS2 safety practices.
  • Supporting the NEC3 Supervisor in discharging their duties under the Contract.
  • Supporting the NEC3 Project Manager in discharging their duties under the Contract.
  • Supporting the functional teams in assuring that the works comply with U&A’s, Environmental Minimum Requirements, and Code of Construction Practice requirements.
  • Supporting the Senior Construction Assurance Manager in managing HS2 cross-contract interfaces with respect to constructability.
  • Assisting the Senior Construction Assurance Manager and HS2 Project Managers with the HS2 CDM Assurance Process to enable release of the Hold Point Release Letter.

Skills and Attributes

  • Problem Solving – identify problems and evaluate options to implement solutions, including planning workstreams with stakeholder, cost, time, and quality considerations.
  • Decision Quality – gather and synthesize information, identify options, and apply sound judgement based on facts and data.
  • Building Relationships – establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to resolve risk situations.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of NEC3 Contract and Supervisor responsibilities and general management principles for matrix organisations.
  • Knowledge of UK construction regulations including CDM and Construction Safety Management requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience of site-based processes for health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Understanding of risk identification and management.
  • Understanding of construction planning and following project programmes.
  • Degree level qualification in civil engineering, construction or building science or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Construction experience on large-scale Civil Engineering projects with ability to assure the installation of MEP for tunnels, ventilation and intervention shafts and portal buildings; experience in these areas is essential.
