A heritage British manufacturer of bespoke heavy industrial lifting equipment is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a tight knit, expert engineering team. This is a role with real depth: complex design challenges, end to end ownership, and a clear progression path to Principal Engineer within two years.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking full ownership of the product lifecycle for bespoke heavy x2011;duty lifting solutions : from initial concept through to product completion.
- Leading design projects, producing detailed 2D/3D CAD models, and carrying out advanced stress calculations and mechanical testing.
- Delivering engineered solutions across Rail, Construction, Aerospace, Offshore and other regulated industrial sectors.
- Meeting customers to capture technical requirements and translate them into robust, tailored engineering solutions.
- Working collaboratively with quality, production, engineering and technical sales teams.
- Managing multiple concurrent projects, balancing short x2011;term demands with long x2011;term development programmes.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong Mechanical Design Engineering experience within heavy engineering, lifting equipment, or safety x2011;critical machinery.
- Proven ability to manage projects from concept through to production.
- High proficiency in stress calculations, FEA principles, and mechanical stress testing.
- Excellent CAD capability and confidence handling multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Desirable extras: experience in regulated industries, knowledge of hydraulics, control circuits or electrical systems, and familiarity with BS EN standards.
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
