Generator Controls System Engineer
Location: Midlands or South (Field‑Based Role)
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + Car Allowance
We’re looking for a Generator Controls System Engineer to take full ownership of control system projects from design through to commissioning.
This is a field-based, hands‑on role for someone who can design, build, and deliver generator control systems in real-world environments.
The Role
You’ll manage the full lifecycle of generator control systems — from site survey and panel design to testing, commissioning, and fault finding.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build electrical control panels for generator and power distribution systems
- Configure and troubleshoot ComAp controllers (InteliGen / InteliSys)
- Deliver synchronisation, load sharing, and remote monitoring solutions
- Carry out detailed site surveys of existing generator installations
- Support project design and technical proposals
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Lead on‑site commissioning alongside contractors
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system faults
- Interpret LV and HV schematics confidently
- Implement switching logic, interlocks, and protection schemes
- Ensure compliance with G99 / G59 grid regulations
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in generator controls or power generation
- Hands‑on experience with ComAp systems
- Background in control panel design and build
- Experience with commissioning and fault finding on‑site
- Good understanding of grid compliance (G99 / G59)
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics
- Comfortable working in a field‑based role with travel across the Midlands and South
