Purpose
- Understand the client’s range of product(s) and author aftermarket technical content
- operator’s information and instructions
- repair procedures

- Understand and work with the departmental processes for the creation of documentation, and support both the off‑site full‑time Technical Author and on‑site Publications team in:
- task management
- artwork creation
- composition
- quality assurance and approval processes
- creation of the “master” English content being mindful of technical translations and localisation (not including the actual language translation)
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Research, structure, author, and re‑author content for multi‑lingual end‑user technical documentation
- Liaise with the client to fully understand their publications requirements
- Work alongside, coordinate, and support the Technical Publications team with the creation and ongoing maintenance of aftermarket support literature
- Instruct the Technical Publications team in the required authored content and supporting illustrations
- Proof‑check and maintain documentation quality
- Maintain the technical glossary of terms
- Attend on‑site engineering/project meetings as and when required
- Visit the client’s production facilities to collate necessary source information
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Good communication skills, verbal and written, as well as task management and reporting skills
- Must possess the ability to write clear and concise technical prose and communicate information effectively
- Previous experience and knowledge of a topic‑based content management system, including the creation and formatting of content elements, topics, and formatting
- Ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines and targets
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to form effective working relationships with both internal and external partners
- Aptitude for information/data gathering
- Possess a good understanding of engineering principles and processes
- Ability to read, and interpret engineering drawings, electrical circuit drawings, product specifications and industry standards
Qualifications
- Technical professional education or qualification (Degree/HNC, or equivalent) or have proven suitable time‑served experience (as appropriate)
Experience
- Professional experience in technical writing (particularly automotive manuals)
