At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

The post holder will be a source of knowledge on all matters relating to the development of the Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR System) Education and Training Strategy and ensure that there is on‑going training and support of core systems and integration of newly developed systems to support the delivery of patient care. The post holder will be required to plan, design, deliver and review training content and research new technology to support the delivery of training. In addition, the post holder will be required to test newly developed applications as part of the EPR and other development programmes; the post holder will also on occasion be required to work across other sites of UHNM.

Main duties of the job

  • Taking input from and working with the ICT Senior Operational Services Manager to produce awareness programmes focussed around electronic patient records and other corporate IT systems.
  • Providing and communicating complex information to groups of non‑ICT staff including patient care pathways and data quality issues.
  • In conjunction with the ICT Senior Operational Services Manager, liaising with the EPR system supplier in the delivery of detailed, targeted solutions to the EPR training needs of each EPR phase of implementation.
  • Working closely with the ICT Service Desk on user issues and problem resolution and providing cover when required.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of the Trust ICT Training Strategy that maintains the ICT training and education needs of all UHNS (University Hospital of North Staffordshire) and Local Health Economy staff.
  • Improving users’ confidence in the use of computer software, being empathetic to a variety of new and experienced learners’ needs.

Job responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and implementation of the Trust ICT Training Strategy that maintains the ICT training and education needs of all UHNS and Local Health Economy staff.
  • Improving users’ confidence in the use of computer software, being empathetic to a variety of new and experienced learners’ needs.
  • Helping to implement and improve processes and procedures within the team to allow strong service‑focused deliverables.
  • Designing both appropriate tailored solutions and a core curriculum to meet the identified learning needs of diverse groups of staff at all levels using a variety of teaching strategies to satisfy a range of learning styles, ensuring equal opportunity of learning and successful learning outcome in line with divisional requirements, via the ICT Senior Operational Services Manager.
  • Providing support and advice on EPR and other ICT training issues to the Trust, assessing the impact of new software releases and additional functionality on existing processes, ensuring the best use of corporate information technology systems within the workplace, and influencing changes to working practices where a need is identified to help the Trust realise the benefits of the investment it is making in these systems.
  • Developing an in‑depth understanding of EPR and its components and any other corporate system.
  • Establishing standards and common approaches to EPR and other systems training across the UHNS and CHCT.
  • Employing innovative methods of delivering training and researching and considering complementary alternative solutions, objectives and standards to be met.
  • Evaluating training and its organisational impact, providing train‑the‑trainer support and guidance to any seconded divisional training staff, and using judgment and expertise to identify appropriate and timely solutions to Trust user problems.

Training Experience

  • Essential Qualifications
  • GCSE / A Level or Qualification in a relevant area
  • Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
  • Experience working within ICT showing experience of systems, support, development and training:
    • Analysing the training needs of staff
    • Experience of working with an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) System
    • Designing appropriate training programmes and resources
    • Delivery training to diverse staff groups
    • Influencing the application of IT to working practices
    • Experience of managing small projects
  • Understanding of NHS IT environment and knowledge of ITIL (IT Information Library)

IT Knowledge

  • Presentation of technical functionality to a non‑technical audience
  • Identification of problems and solutions
  • Communicating at all levels
  • Ability to work across organisational and professional boundaries
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Blended Training approach
