Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead the concept, design, and detailing of chassis systems and components
- Define requirements, identify technical challenges, and deliver practical engineering solutions
- Produce high‑quality CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs in line with BS8888
- Communicate design intent and requirements to internal teams, customers, and suppliers
- Oversee validation activities, including DVP&R, to ensure compliance with functional and regulatory standards
- Support production, investigating build issues and resolving field service problems
- Mentor and coach engineers, promoting best‑practice design and development methods
- Provide engineering support for product launches and vehicle integration
Key Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within vehicle or chassis development
- Strong knowledge of chassis systems, structures, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Strong experience with fabrication (i.e. welding)
- Experience taking designs from concept through to validation and production
- Proficient in CAD and creation of detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
- Understanding of DVP&R, design for manufacture and assembly, and mechanical testing methods
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills
- Ability to lead technical delivery, work cross‑functionally, and support UK field activities
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
