Health, Safety and Fire Manager

As part of a small team, the Health, Safety and Fire Manager will be responsible for the efficient operation, planning and development of the Fire Safety Services across London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. The role supports the Health and Safety Team and ensures compliance with nationally recognised standards for patients, visitors and staff.

The position covers all Trust premises, with the post partially based between Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospital and Ealing Hospital. The holder will be required to work and travel across all Trust sites.

Key responsibilities

  • Operate and develop the Trust’s fire safety services.
  • Support health and safety functions across all Trust sites.
  • Ensure delivery of services to nationally agreed and recognised standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff and management.
  • Develop and deliver effective training programmes, written and oral.
  • Maintain incident reporting and risk management procedures.
  • Lead and sponsor projects to address non‑compliance with fire and health & safety legislation.
  • Manage Datix incident reporting and risk management systems.
  • Prepare and present reports and action plans.

Person Specification

Education

  • Degree level education or equivalent health and safety and fire safety management competency.
  • Professional qualification in a discipline related to health and safety or fire safety or evidence of working towards one.
  • Holder of H&S NEBOSH (Gen Cert) or CFPA Diploma in Fire Prevention.
  • Member of IOSH.
  • Member of the National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers.
  • Qualified training instructor PTTLS or equivalent.
  • IFE approved Fire Safety/Fire Warden Trainer.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience in healthcare health, safety and fire.
  • Experience in Datix Incident Reporting & Risk Management Systems.
  • Extensive fire safety/prevention experience gained in Fire Brigade, Armed Forces, Healthcare, Local Fire Authority or comparable industrial organisation.
  • Experience in sponsoring project works to address non‑compliance with fire and H & S legislation.
  • Experience with risk management techniques and processes.

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

  • Effective interpersonal, influencing and communication skills; ability to deal with staff at all levels.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Able to drive with own vehicle.
  • Good training skills; ability to develop and deliver effective training programmes.
  • Experience taking notes at meetings with action plans.
