We are working with a well-established and growing business within the building materials sector, looking to appoint an experienced Area Sales Manager to drive growth across Central Scotland.
This is a field-based role offering a high level of autonomy, working alongside a supportive internal account team to develop both new and existing business. It’s an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven individual with strong industry knowledge and established relationships to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across construction, housebuilding, and trade sectors
- Develop and manage a portfolio of key accounts, building long-term, profitable relationships
- Promote a broad range of building materials, working closely with internal teams and suppliers
- Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and tenders in line with commercial targets
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities
- Collaborate with operations, logistics, and procurement to ensure excellent service delivery
- Represent the business at customer and supplier events to strengthen relationships
- Achieve and exceed sales, margin, and growth targets
- Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and provide regular forecasts to management
Role Overview
- Deliver a high level of service across an established customer base
- Build and grow relationships with both new and existing clients
- Maximise customer spend through proactive account development
- Regularly visit customers to strengthen partnerships and drive revenue
- Work closely with suppliers to identify opportunities and improve profitability
- Stay up to date with product knowledge through ongoing training
- Support wider business functions where required
About You
- Proven track record in external sales or business development within building materials / merchanting
- Strong knowledge of timber and construction products
- Established network within construction, contractor, or housebuilding sectors in Central Scotland
- Highly driven with a proactive approach to winning new business
- Commercially astute with a strong understanding of margins and pricing
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently
- Positive, ambitious, and target-driven mindset
- Full UK driving licence
