Project Manager Assistant – Commissioning (190795)
At HDR, we specialise in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well‑known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high‑performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we are a multidisciplinary firm that values diversity and inclusion.
About the Role
As a Project Manager Assistant, you’ll support smooth project delivery by working closely with experienced Project Managers and Project Directors. You’ll coordinate tasks, track progress, communicate with stakeholders, and help ensure projects – including data centre and commissioning‑led workstreams – run efficiently and in line with agreed programmes and governance.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, multitasking, and ensuring no detail is missed. You will become a key support to the project team, with opportunities to develop your project management career within complex engineering and commissioning environments.
You will support a team of engineers across multiple projects, locations, and ventures, including mission‑critical and data centre projects. You’ll be part of a dynamic, agile, forward‑thinking team that is growing its portfolio and reach.
About You
We are seeking a Project Manager Assistant with strong organisational and coordination skills, and experience within the construction and/or engineering sector. Experience supporting data centre projects, commissioning activities, or technically complex building services environments is advantageous.
You should be adaptable, proactive, and keen to add value in this key sector. The ability to interact professionally with clients, contractors, and internal teams is essential. Client‑facing skills are a key consideration, whether through project coordination, commissioning support, or delivery assistance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate the work of project teams throughout the project life cycle, including commissioning and handover phases, under the supervision of the Project Manager.
- Coordinate workloads through project execution and support delivery to agreed budget and programme.
- Apply company quality assurance guidelines and procedures.
- Assist the Project Manager in establishing client relationships and participate in marketing, contractual, change, production, and commissioning‑related meetings.
- Assist the Project Manager with change control and risk management.
- Work closely with multiple Project Managers and multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Be responsible for many aspects of a small project, or a defined workstream (such as commissioning coordination) within a larger project.
- Assist in developing project management plans and quality management plans.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, Accounting, Operational, and Business Leadership for regular project reviews.
- Prepare, organise, and coordinate contracts and sub‑contracts.
- Coordinate and monitor sub‑consultant information, including quality management plans and deliverables.
- Coordinate internal and external meetings and presentations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience within the data centre or mission‑critical sector is highly advantageous.
- Working knowledge of construction projects and engineering delivery.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and multi‑tasking skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Project Management within an engineering, construction, or design consultancy environment.
- Ability to interact with multiple design and engineering teams, with excellent organisational, project management, and communication skills.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
- High attention to detail and deadlines.
- 2 years minimum experience in a similar position or administrative role.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook.
- Ability to work with and take direction from multiple levels of professional staff.
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
