Job Description:

An established North West based contractor is looking to appoint a Project Manager to oversee operational delivery across a portfolio of mechanical and construction-led projects.

The business has a strong regional presence and a long-standing track record delivering design, installation, refurbishment and maintenance services across sectors including education, healthcare, housing, retail and leisure. They are recognised for delivering high-quality, safe and sustainable solutions and have built a strong reputation as a trusted delivery partner.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for leading and overseeing operational activities across your project portfolio. Working closely with senior leadership, you will help ensure the business meets its growth and sustainability objectives through safe, efficient and commercially successful project delivery.

This is a strategic operational role focused on ensuring projects are delivered to programme, budget and quality standards, while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and effective resource utilisation.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Delivery

  • Develop detailed project plans covering scope, programme, budget and resource allocation
  • Create and maintain project schedules, ensuring key tasks and milestones are tracked and delivered
  • Carry out site surveys to confirm client requirements, programme expectations and cost assumptions before works commence
  • Support pre-condition surveys of client sites where required

Commercial and Budget Management

  • Assist with project cost planning at pre-contract stage using internal forecasting systems
  • Work with senior leadership to agree commercial targets prior to project start
  • Monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle, including labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
  • Ensure projects remain within budget through to handover
  • Complete and submit monthly valuations

Team Leadership and Coordination

  • Lead and manage site teams, subcontractors and apprentices
  • Delegate tasks clearly and ensure the right skills and experience are in place across the team
  • Promote safe working practices at all times in line with company health and safety procedures
  • Attend regular operational and labour planning meetings to ensure resources are effectively allocated and productivity is maximised

Contract and Supply Chain Management

  • Negotiate orders and appointments with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Review and approve invoices and assess variations where project changes arise

Quality Assurance

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure works are completed to required standards and specifications
  • Carry out regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance
  • Ensure O&M manuals are completed on time, at handover, and in line with client requirements, design information and warranties
  • Maintain accurate contract documentation in line with internal procedures

Risk Management

  • Identify project risks and develop suitable contingency plans
  • Proactively address site and project issues to minimise disruption

Client Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, attending meetings and providing regular progress updates both in person and via email
  • Respond to client concerns promptly and maintain strong working relationships

Compliance

  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with relevant mechanical and construction standards, codes and regulations
  • Monitor auditing requirements, testing and inspection certification
  • Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture across projects

Additional Duties

  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required by management

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in a project or operational leadership role within building services or construction
  • Experience delivering projects in complex live environments such as education, healthcare, local authority and social housing
  • Strong technical understanding
  • Experience managing decarbonisation and sustainability-led projects
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering or construction management
  • Demonstrable track record of improving processes to support operational and commercial performance
  • Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting and cost control
