Job Summary
The Project Controls Lead for the Hospital Projects oversees and implements the full project controls framework across the entire programme, ensuring consistent application of scheduling, risk management, change control, document control and cost management processes. The role provides clear, accurate and timely visibility of performance across multiple clinical, construction, MEP and commissioning workstreams, enabling informed decision‑making and ensuring effective control of a complex hospital delivery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an accurate, consolidated assessment of the overall hospital project status at all times and provide strategic reports directly to the Project Director and Client.
- Implement and govern the project controls processes and systems across all sections and contractors, ensuring compliance with hospital‑specific standards, safety requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Develop, maintain and oversee the integrated master programme for the hospital projects, ensuring that all discipline programmes (construction, MEP, clinical equipment, commissioning) remain aligned and accurately reflect progress.
- Lead the assessment of project risk and contingency, ensuring risks specific to hospital delivery—clinical interfaces, shutdowns, infection‑control constraints, specialist installations—are captured, analysed and managed.
- Consolidate resource requirements across the hospital programme through integration of all schedules, ensuring visibility of specialist and critical resource needs.
- Lead reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the full project, ensuring clarity on performance, trends and emerging issues.
- Implement and champion early warning processes, ensuring emerging risks, issues or clinical‑operational impacts are escalated promptly and actioned.
- Prepare and present formal monthly and ad hoc reports for the full hospital project, incorporating: Overall schedule status and trend Cost performance vs. budget and forecast Comprehensive risk register and contingency analysis Change trends and impacts Critical early warnings / recommended corrective actions
- Ensure the master programme recognises and incorporates all approvals, consents and healthcare compliance gateways required for hospital commissioning and clinical readiness.
- Oversee the document control strategy and ensure robust management of controlled documents, healthcare specifications, assurance files and compliance records.
- Develop and lead the management of interface schedules and dependencies across all disciplines, ensuring clarity of ownership across construction, MEP, clinical equipment suppliers and hospital operational teams.
- Maintain effective control of programme and financial contingency at project level, ensuring allowances remain aligned with the current project and risk position.
- Lead the application of the change management process across all tiers of the hospital project, ensuring all changes are recorded, assessed and integrated with programme, cost and risk frameworks.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Understanding of project planning, risk management, cost control and integrated project controls, ideally within complex or highly regulated environments such as hospitals or healthcare facilities.
- Ability to apply IT systems relevant to Controls.
- Strong knowledge of integrated project reporting at programme level.
- Highly proficient numerical and data analysis skills.
- Ability to use Primavera P6 and other relevant software.
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
- Experience in a senior project controls role on large, complex projects; experience in hospital, healthcare or similarly regulated environments.
