A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome toSMR The RAC is known for roadsiderescue – but this isn’t that.
OurService, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a newer,fast-growing part of the RAC, built to deliver planned, structuredrepair and servicing directly to members – from their driveway totheir workplace car park.
There are noemergency callouts, no unpredictable shift patterns and no roadsiderecoveries. Instead, you’ll work through a scheduled list ofjobs, with the time, tools and support you need to do qualitywork.
What toexpect Your day starts with a cleardigital schedule. Each job is pre‑booked, with the member expectingyou. You’ll carry out:
– Routineservicing – Diagnostics using advanced mobileequipment – In‑depth repairs you’d normallycomplete in a workshop – Member advice andrecommendations based on your inspection – Vehiclesafety checks aligned to RAC standards
And because SMR is structured, you’re not reacting to breakdowns –you’re delivering planned work that you can preparefor.
From day one, you’ll haveeverything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform,full tool set and advanced diagnostics. You’ll use your technicalskill and problem‑solving ability to get people moving again;safely, quickly and confidently.

What you’llneed: – Level 2 qualification inLight Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) – Minimum2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on lightvehicles – A full UK driving licence with fewerthan 6 points
