Mechanical Construction Manager (MOD Infrastructure)

– Location: Cornwall

– Contract Duration: 18 Months+

– Package Value: £50 Million (Mechanical & Electrical)

– Reporting To: Project Director

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced, mechanically biased Construction Manager to oversee a flagship £50m mechanical package on a high-security MOD infrastructure project. Working within a Tier 1 contractor environment, you will lead the installation, commissioning, and handover of complex mechanical systems, ensuring technical excellence and rigorous safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

– Site Leadership: Oversee all on-site mechanical activities in accordance with technical specifications and MOD standards.

– Subcontractor Management: Coordinate multidisciplinary mechanical subcontractors to ensure productivity, quality, and schedule adherence.

– Technical Quality & QA: Resolve design conflicts, conduct inspections, and oversee pressure testing, pipework flushing, and system commissioning.

– Safety & Compliance: Lead mechanical safety by reviewing RAMS, issuing Permits to Work, and ensuring CDM 2015 compliance.

– Reporting: Use digital tools (e.g., Field View) for progress reporting, snagging, and QA records.

– Security & Logistics: Manage material deliveries and personnel vetting for a high-security site.

Essential Requirements

– Experience: 10–15 years in Mechanical Construction Management on large-scale infrastructure (Data Centres, Power Plants, or MOD/Defense).

– Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of plant room fit-outs, heavy pipework, HVAC, and chilled water systems.

– Qualifications: CSCS Black Manager’s Card, SMSTS, and NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management or a relevant Engineering degree.

– Vetting: Ability to obtain (or currently hold) SC Clearance. Previous MOD, MoJ, or Nuclear site experience is highly preferred.

– Leadership: Proven track record managing mechanical packages exceeding £15m–£20m.
