Job Summary
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department research team on a fixed‑term basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Work predominantly with Emergency Department research studies.
- Collaborate with leading principal investigators, the research team and the multidisciplinary team to provide patients with opportunities to participate in research studies.
- Lead complex studies and manage your own caseload while supporting other studies within the bounds of your registration.
- Recruit patients into clinical research, including clinical trials of drugs and new interventions, meeting set time limits.
- Monitor patients in clinical trials, observe for side effects and report according to protocols.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of data derived from the research studies.
- Ensure that all research undertaken within the department safeguards participant well‑being and is conducted within the research governance framework.
- Coordinate your own case load of clinical trial/research patients and oversee junior team members’ caseloads.
- Work unsupervised in all areas related to clinical trials and research studies and supervise the work of junior team members.
- Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings and clinics to assess volunteer/patient eligibility for research and recruit new patients, acting as a resource to the members of the MDT.
- Ensure that trial‑specific clinical investigations/procedures are undertaken as required by the research protocol to establish eligibility and maintain safety.
- Recognise and report/manage any complaints from patients or carers.
- Assist in the education and support of other health care professionals to enable them to care for patients participating in clinical trials or other research studies.
- Respond to change in line with the needs of the service.
Qualifications and Experience
- Current NMC registration.
- Registered Nurse with solid nursing experience.
- Excellent communication skills, reliability, hardworking and teamwork abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal development and interest in the future development of the profession and ED research.
- Preference for previous experience in clinical research, though not mandatory.
Additional Requirements
- Provide an immunisation and vaccination report from your UK occupational health provider or GP.
- Secondment will be considered for internal candidates; successful candidates must obtain approval from their current line manager to accept the offer.
