Senior Automation Test Engineer – MHRA
Full‑time, fixed‑term contract until 19 April 2027. Based at 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU or South Mimms, Hertfordshire. The role supports the agency’s Digital and Technology Group.
The Senior Automation Test Engineer will lead the design, maintenance and enhancement of automation testing frameworks to ensure the quality and reliability of software systems across the agency.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance automation test frameworks, including scripting and improving existing solutions.
- Collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers and external suppliers to deliver high‑quality services.
- Execute API automation testing across services and integrations.
- Use test management tools (JIRA, Zephyr, TestRail, Confluence) for test case management and defect tracking.
- Apply a risk‑based approach to testing, prioritising efforts to maximise quality and coverage.
- Support test data and environment management to ensure effective and reliable testing.
- Participate in performance testing and accessibility testing as required.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in automation using BDD frameworks and tools such as Cypress, Playwright or Selenium, with JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD principles and integration of automated tests into delivery pipelines.
- Experience with API testing approaches and service validation.
- Ability to use defect tracking and reporting tools to log, categorise and track issues.
- Familiarity with modern Agile and DevOps testing practices.
- Knowledge of system architecture, APIs, databases and cloud‑based applications.
- Knowledge of performance testing tools (e.g. JMeter, Azure Load Testing) (desirable).
- Knowledge of accessibility testing practices and tools (e.g. WCAG, NVDA, Pa11y, Axe) (desirable).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS (desirable).

Background Checks

Benefits
Digital Allowance of up to £12,823 per annum may be available for exceptional candidates. This allowance is non‑pensionable and may change annually.
Qualified applicants may also be subject to annual occupational health reviews depending on role requirements.
