Role Purpose
The Business Development Manager will lead efforts to engage small and micro employers in creating high-quality apprenticeship opportunities for young people aged 16–24.
Role Description
- Employer Engagement & Vacancy Development
- Proactively engage employers to create apprenticeship opportunities for 16–24-year-olds
- Promote apprenticeships as a high-quality entry route into employment
- Identify roles that support skills development, progression, and sustained employment
- Champion inclusive recruitment for disadvantaged and underrepresented young people
- Work with internal teams to ensure safe, supportive, and developmental placements
- Guide employers on safeguarding, health & safety, and supporting young apprentices
- Promote high expectations around attendance, achievement, and progression
- Recruitment & Vacancy Management
- Manage the end-to-end vacancy process from engagement to apprentice start
- Ensure roles are meaningful and aligned to apprenticeship standards
- Collaborate with teams to match suitable candidates quickly and effectively
- Employer Relationships & Engagement
- Build strong, long-term employer partnerships
- Represent the organisation at events and engagement activities
- Work collaboratively to deliver a high-quality learner and employer experience
- Data, Targets & Compliance
- Meet KPIs for employer engagement, vacancies, and starts
- Maintain accurate records using CRM systems
- Ensure compliance with funding rules and support positive Ofsted outcomes
Ideal Candidate
- Experience in business development, sales, or employer engagement
- Strong understanding of apprenticeships or experience working with young people in education, training, or employment
- Experience engaging with small businesses and owner-managers
- Ability to communicate effectively with employers, young people, and internal teams
- Strong relationship-builder with a consultative approach
- Youth-focused mindset with an understanding of barriers young people may face
- Target-driven, organised, and self-motivated
- Commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and learner welfare
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
